"Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in!" -HAIR
HAIR is a musical about peace, love, hippies, and pain. It's the story of an Aquarius, Claude, who I fell in love with as the story progressed. Anyways, Claude and his hippie tribe are completely against the war in Vietnam, which is happening during this story. All the men in the "tribe" have their cards to be called to war, seeing as it's against the law to discard them. When Claude's draft card is called and he is told he is to be shipped out, Claude freaks out. The rest of the tribe decides not to risk it and burns their cards. Claude, being nervous, runs from the event. After smoking a joint Berger gave him, Claude has a wild hallucination that involves almost every war there has ever been. When he wakes up, he realizes he must go fight, and does so, dying in the process. The musical ends with the chilling song, "Let the Sunshine In" as the echoes of the cast ring with an empty stage. This is by far my favorite musical, but I wouldn't suggest it for many who are ages 12 and under due to some nudity and language.
